Hello and Goodbye

•July 26, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Its been a long time since i have blogged or even read a blog, a number of reasons: 1) i have a life (only because i am now engaged to the most awesome woman in the world!) 2) i have a thesis to write (which is still not written) 3) i have realised that blogging can be quite self serving and i reckon for me i dont want to make it a stumbling block. so in an effort to guard against the third thing, i’ve joined …daylight as contributor and will write on that blog. Hopefully still spark helpful conversations about missional Gospel work in the SA context. Thanks for reading this if you have and hopefully we can talk more!

IT was wet!!!, originally uploaded by a_dOgshOw.

IT was wet!!! Our college, George Whitefield, held a day of evangelism. it was a chance for the students to go out into the community to meet people and chat to them about Jesus. For some of them, it was the first time they would do something like this. And so it was a real paradigm shift in terms of thinking about reaching the lost for the sake of the Gospel for some of the students.

I was wondering what you might think of walk up evangelism? In other words, just walking up to someone and asking them a few questions hoping to chat about Jesus? Does it work? Does it need to work? Does it have a place in the context of the local church?

Either way, it was great day and my friend Chester and his wife Ka as well as myself were able to have tea with some people and we all fell into a very fruitful conversation about religion, God, the environment and Jesus.  Did i mention it was raining the whole time!?!  Yes, it was!

Book Review – Difficult Doctrine of Love D.A. Carson Pt 2

Here is the second installment of this little series.  It’s been a pleasure being able to come to grip with some of the texts that are presenting the Love of God.  Please, do not read this without looking at the Biblical evidence and learning from that before assuming i have it right.

Book Review- Difficult Doctrine of Love. D.A Carson

•April 16, 2007 • 3 Comments

It’s been a while since i have posted, and truth be told the left overs in my fridge (see previous post) are still walking around.  But i have been thinking much of love lately (for more reasons that one) and i have noticed a number of blogs and have been in conversations with people who are discussing the love of God.  So i went back to a small (yet jam packed) book on the Doctrine of God’s love.  So i’ll be posting a review of the book every Monday for a month on each chapter.  I hope it’s helpful to you, it’s been great for me.  I realise what i have to say is pretty short, in fact i left out some elements to the argument.  The idea behind that is for you to come back at me with thoughts and particularly with implications and applications to evangelism.  So enjoy!

What’s leftovers got to do with it?

Life seems to pile many things up when your not looking, its like leftovers in the fridge.  You really don’t want to deal with them until they smell so bad you have to.  Hm, anyway, i have a ton of leftovers in my schedule so i’ll be taking a break for a few days.  Hope you all had a great weekend this Easter and continue to look forward to our Kings return!

Happy Easter

Its Easter Sunday, so instead of me speaking about it i thought i would post a verse central to our understanding of the Christ event:

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

Praise God for our Great Salvation and Hope on this Easter day!
